Hulle begin apart lewe maar hy bly a.g.v. sy opsie deel van die plaas. Intussen lok Pollie n paar mans plaas toe, en haar ma en Hermanus Swart raak verlief, vir Dina was dit nooit moeilik nie. In hierdie selfde tyd roep sy die hulp in van die dorp se Slamaaier (a.k.a whiskers) Jim Bird om Lewies te toor en van die grond af te probeer maak. Maar dinge raak te veel vir Dina, en die aand van die groot Hael besluit, Dina, Jim en Hermanus om die hulp in te roep van Andriese n Herman Monoto en Lewies te vermoor. Eers slaan hulle sy kop pap met n knopkierie, maar hy veg woes vir sy lewe, Dina en Monoto gryp sy voete vas, jim sit op sy bors, en maak sy hande met n riem vas. Swart sny ten einde sy keel af. Die bloed spat orals, en klein Pikkenien van die plaas loer en sien alles. Met sy graf moet hulle alles saam begrawe, flennie, lappe, mat en komberse. Vir lank word na Lewies gesoek, en Dina vertel vir Pollie, Machiel en Ina en Lewies se broer ou Saltman dat hy Rhodisia toe geloop het. Louis Tumpowski owns a small tobacco shop in Mayfair, and it is exactly here that Dina and Louis meet. Louis and Dina never get married but have a great time from the beginning and talk hours. He is much older than her. Meanwhile, her mother falls ill and she has to return to the farm to take care of her sick mother. Louis, or Lewies as she calls him, stays behind with all her furniture in her little room and enjoys being alone and luxurious. During her visit to the farm, she meets a handsome Geologist and sees the imaginary diamonds on her fingers again and then marries him before he gets away. Louis knows nothing. Tom was a deceiver and liar, only when the messenger of the court came to collect his "fancy" car Dina realized the packing of his fake life, she left him summarily and went back to the farm. She cries to her father "he is a liar and a liar". Her father answered." Trust not in princes, in a son of man, with whom there is no salvation." Dina had a daughter with Willem, but apparently Willem brought a tame baboon to the farm and from the great fright, they believe, Pollie was then born a little slowly. Pollie goes to school, at a special school. Meanwhile, the tenant (from Skilpadverdiet) of Willem and Dina's farm sells some diamonds and buys Dina's farm Tweebuffelsgeschiet, a month later they dig for diamonds on her old farm, and she feels cheated. But she asked her brother Machiel to help her and she then bought Treurfontein. She and Lewies move to the farm. Not long and the grapes are sour, Lewies gets a constant stomach ache and he believes Dina is feeding him poison. They start living separately but he stays because his option part of the farm. Meanwhile, Pollie lures a few men to the farm, and her mother and Hermanus Swart fall in love, for Dina it was never difficult. At this same time, she enlists the help of the town's "Slamaaier" (a.k.a whiskers) Jim Bird to cast a spell and try to get Lewies out of the picture. But things get too much for Dina, and on the night of the big storm, Dina, Jim and Hermanus to enlist the help of Andries and Herman Monoto to kill Lewies. First they hit his head with a club, but he fights furiously for his life, Dina and Monoto grab his feet, Jim sits on his chest, and tie his hands with a belt. Swart ends up cutting his throat. The blood splatters everywhere, and little Pikkenien from the farm peeks and sees everything. With his grave they must bury everything together, flannel, rags, carpet and blankets. For a long time, they are looking for Lewies, and Dina tells Pollie, Machiel and Ina and Lewies' brother in law and sister the Saltman's that he walked to Rhodesia. After all the inquiries, the Police set Frederik Daniell to look for the body or the man so they can open a case. He and bandits almost dig up the entire Treurgrond, but found nothing.
